The Cause of Subluxation - Life Stressors

Let us take a look at what causes subluxations in the first place. There are three main categories of stressors that cause subluxation. There are physical stressors, emotional stressors, and chemical stressors. In all cases the effect of the stressor is that the body can not adapt and bring itself back to normal function again. Much of these stressors are a result of our lifestyle choices so there is much we can do to prevent these from happening. Once the subluxations have been created though, they must be corrected or they will continue to cause damage. Let's look at each type of stressor.

Physical Stressors

WelderMen live a very busy life today, both at work and at play. The work day may involve very physical labour and sometimes in very harsh conditions. Some men work at a desk but that too puts tremendous demands on our body. We were not designed to sit at a desk and this type of stressor is very real and contributing to a large number of serious health problems.

Then there are the more aggressive bangs and bruises along the road of life. Sometimes quite literally in the form of a car accident. Other times it can be a strain while shovelling the driveway, or a collision on the ice during the weekend hockey game.

If any of these stressors become more than the body can handle it will create subluxations. If the body is not able to correct these subluxations it will create dysfunction in the body and the longer they are present the more dysfunction they will create.

These subluxations, which is a term for nerve interference, can sometimes be felt as tight muscles in the back. If left uncorrected it usually builds up to severe pain and disablity. They can also be the reason for the reduced energy at the end of the day, or worse, the beginning of the day. All systems in the body can be damaged by subluxations so the symptoms of subluxation can range from headaches to hemorrhoids.

Chemical Stressors

Man SmokingThe air we breathe, the water we drink, and the foods we eat are where most of our chemical stressors in life, in terms of toxins, come from. The pesticides, industrial waste, and car fumes are just some of the examples that we all deal with daily. Some people make it even worse through the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Drugs prescribed by a doctor are not exempt either. They all have ‘side effects’ because they are all toxic to the body and these will contribute to the formation of subluxations in the body. Aspirin use is the third leading cause of preventable death, so it is certainly capable of overwhelming the body and contributing to subluxations.

If someone is exposed to a lot of chemical stressors it increases the likelihood that they will Poor Nutrition have subluxations. Even if the chemical stressor has been removed, such as someone who quits smoking, there can be subluxations that will be left behind and they will continue to cause health damage until they are corrected.

Another type of chemical stressor comes in the form of the absence of proper nutrients. All of our cells need certain nutrients to function properly. If the diet is not getting all of the proper nutrients the cells need then the cells will begin to fail and this failure will create subluxaitons.

Emotional Stressors

Work DeadlineWhen the deadlines for your work are getting closer but the pile of work doesn't seem to be getting smaller the emotional stressors are running pretty high. The body doesn't know the difference between getting chased by a tiger or getting chased by the threat of losing a contract. This is one of the biggest contributors to subluxations in today's society. Other emotional stressors at work are employee relations. It would be nice if everyone just got along, but that never happens and you have to deal with it. Sometimes it is your boss who is a major stressor. This one is really difficult. You can't tell him to take off or shut up. That will just trade one stressor for another - the stressor of finding a job

The emotional stressors of home life are also very real. If you are raising kids there is that constant concern for their well being. Are you doing the right thing? Don't want to spoil them and don't want to neglect them. Where is that balance? Health issues can become considerable stressors. Often men can accept their own health problems easier than they can accept if for their children or wife. There will always be challenges like these in life. The question is how much damage do you want these challenges to make.

ArguementA nuturing loving relationship with your wife is also an important aspect of life. This isn't always an easy task. Actually this is never an easy task. A good relationship always takes work. Sometimes the amount of work it takes is more than we can deal with and our system is once again over burdened. It is a bit of a double hit because our intimate relationship is suppose to lift us up and support us in life. Not only are we not getting that support we are actually developing more dysfunction. This makes it even harder to nurture that relationship because or energy is down and our patience is short.

Running the household, balancing the budget, paying the mortgage, and scheduling the Paying the Bills house maintenance are tasks that take time and energy and at times it feels like there is no way you can get everything done. That’s overwhelm. The fast pace of life today, the difficult economic times, the uncertainty of job security, and dwindelling returns on our investments, are all putting extra stressors on us today. Some say more than we have ever had to deal with in the past.

So all three of these stressors contribute to the formation of subluxations. Our lifestyle certainly plays a role in terms of how much damage is occurring. Once the damage is present it needs to be corrected or it will continue to weaken the system. Usually this weakening is a very slow process but when the body finally runs out of room to compensate for the damage it can bring the whole system to a halt. The immune system might fail, some joints might wear out, or the body just won’t be able to produce enough energy to get through the day any more. Being aware of the stressors in life is important, and we must also act to correct the subluxations as soon as they are created so we can stay ahead of the breakdown.
